Meteoric growth: The Internet of Things is scaling exponentially

More than a decade ago scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML created a vision for a future-oriented logistics system where intelligent devices learnt to think and goods could organize how to get to their destination all by themselves – the Internet of Things for logistics was born. In the meantime, the Internet of Things has now become reality and is enjoying exponential growth. It is the driving force behind the digitalization of logistics and is laying the foundations for Industry 4.0 – and Fraunhofer IML will ensure your company can make full use of these opportunities as well.

At the moment, many companies are still rather cautious when it comes to the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0. However, the latest study by Fraunhofer IML reveals the great potential behind all of these developments – and in particular for medium-sized companies.

Fraunhofer IML has set itself the goal of supporting your company by:

  • applying existing technical solutions and continuing to develop them together
  • creating new business models and markets
  • using the opportunities opened up by the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.

Our Facilities for Research on the Internet of Things

Innovationlab

An interdisciplinary research project for the development of hybrid services within the framework of Industry 4.0 and with a special focus on the interaction between humans and machines.

Swarm Intelligence: LivingLab Cellular Transport Systems

“Swarm intelligence” for logistics. The aim is to design supply chains in a more energy-efficient way and be able to react more flexibly to unforeseen occurrences.

“It’s all about the big picture. You don’t just get to stay market leader, you have to become it again and again!”
